Walking Through Pathways

Today the year 4, 5 and 6 students went to Pounamu Pathways in Greymouth.  We left school at about 9:20 and got there around 10.  I went in a car with Bella, Sabian and Mum (who was driving).  We got out of the car and went around by the building where everyone else was.  Miss Lang told us where to meet if there was a fire and then we got into 2 groups, found a buddy and walked in.  The reception lady gave us a quick talk in the first room.  After the lady had left we looked at the pictures and the writing.  Next we left that room and went into the next.

This room had a big Moari statue of a cheif.  It looked like it was moving so it was kind of creepy as well as cool.  Soon we went into the next room.  This room was really cool.  Me and my class mates called it the war room.  This room was pretty dark and it had a big peice of green stone in the middle of the room.  There were pictures on the wall and the pictures changed through out the story.  This was my faviourite room.

We kept on looking through the diffrent rooms.  It was really cool exploring the building and learning about everything.  We had a small booklet to fill out well we walked around, that Mrs Hickford and Miss Lang made.  I learned a whole lot more about the Moari culture and their stories.  I also learnt some more Maori names.  After we left Pounamu Pathways we went down to Dixion Park.  We pulled our lunchboxs out of our school bags and had something to eat.  We also played on the playground there and Me, Meia and Tara made up an obstacle course.

Soon we had to go back to school.  I really enjoyed going to Pounamu Pathways and Dixion Park.  I loved learning about the Maori culture and what they did when they came here – to New Zealand.  I hope that they make a Pounamu Pathway here as well.

Do you like learning about the Moari?

Were your ancesters Moari?
