On Monday we did swimming sports. Swimming sports is when the seniors of our school go to the Hokitika pool to race each other. The seniors from Kokotaki came too. I did 1 length backstroke, 1 length freestyle and 1/2 length doggy paddle, backstroke or dophine dives. We all had to pick at least 3 races to do. I think I did pretty well because I got into distriks for 1 length backstroke. I didn’t really want to do districs but I decided I would. At Districs there were people from St Mary’s, Hokitika Primary, The High School and us Kaniere. I knew everyone from our school and some people from other schools. I had to wait for ages. Finnaly when my turn came I was called up with a 4 or 5 other girls and we lined up on the chairs. I was in lane 2. When the whistle blew we hoped in the water and and held onto the handle of the diving boards and pulled our legs up so we were crouching. Then they claped the wodden things together and we took off. Once everyone was at the other side of the pool they blew the whistle and we hoped. I grabed my towel and when I was dry I went into the girls changing rooms to get changed. Mum had been watching my race and she came over we went out to the car and went home. I got almost the whole day off school.
